The Kafue Release Facility - Camp Phoenix
Zambia
Adventure
Camp Phoenix is situated on the banks of the Nkala River in the Kafue National Park. The main feature is the large elephant boma which provides secure stabling for the calves in the evenings when predators are most active. During the day the herd moves into the park with their keepers, continuing the learning and growing process started at the Lilayi Elephant Nursery. It is at these points that the herd often meets the wild elephants.
The oldest orphan, Chodoba, spends much of his time away in the bush gradually releasing himself into the wild.
Members of the public are welcome to visit the camp but you must arrange your trip in advance to ensure they know you are coming and you arrive when the elephants are not out in the park. You can email here for more information.
Please note that there are no camping facilities for the public.
A visit to the facility is free but please do make a donation.. Alternatively you can adopt an elephant or make a donation through the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Donation Page where you can opt for your donation to specifically benefit the Kafue Conservation Facility in Zambia (last option) which includes the Kafue Release Facility.
